Cheers to 2017

2017 has been a eventful year for me both personally and professionally. Each month in 2017 has something to offer.

In January: I had a conflict with one of my ex-bosses and moved to another team to build integrations for our Business Intelligence tool. In retrospect, that is one of the best learning experiences of my career. It helped me to understand how important it is to have metrics while building a product.

In February: I got engaged to my wife.

In March: I received training in Product Marketing. Again one of the best trainings I ever had. The training showed the blind spots and helped me increase my knowledge about the product management.

In April: I got the permanent residence for Canada and completed one of the complex projects at work.

In May: I got married.

In June: My wife moved to the states and she got her permanent residency as well.

In July: We travelled a little in the states and started preparations for moving to Canada. My wife took the lead and started applying for the jobs. I started to launch my own company in India and completed the business case analysis, Go to market strategy  and MVP mockups. However, due to a telecom regulation in India, I have to let go the opportunity as the regulation will not allow us to run our business.

In August: I resigned at the company in the states, spent some time with friends and family at Seattle and migrated to Toronto, Canada.

In September: My wife got the job in Canada and started working. I also got a job offer and had to decline it as it did not align with my future goals.

In October: I used couple of techniques during the job hunting process and they got backfired and I learnt my mistakes. We signed a lease agreement with a condo owner and thus realizing my dream of living in one of the skyscrapers in downtown Toronto. The view from our condo is amazing.

In November: Got our health cards and became eligible for free health care services in Ontario state.

In December: I got another job offer and started working immediately. The company sent me for CSPO training in the first week. Bingo!!!. Learnt a lot on product management space this year. Finally, my driving license has arrived along with christmas presents for the year.
The decisions I took in 2016 became fruitful in 2017 and I am glad that things mostly went the way I wanted.Having goals and a roadmap to achieve them will always lead to a cherishing and content life.

I am glad that I moved to Canada for good after struggling to procure working visa in the states. Recently, I mentioned to one of friends that I earned peace of mind and independence. I want to make sure I do not waste the opportunity. I really want to build on the learnings, wisdom, education and experience I gathered.

Cheers to 2017 and all the friends and family who stood beside me.
