25 Paise Coin is NO MORE
From June 30th 2011 you can't make a transaction in 25 paise coin. You may wondered have I ever traded with it in last 3 to 4 years. The answer is yes. Most of all might have traded in 25 paise till June 30th 2011 . But not by coin exchange but in terms of paying through ur plastic money( credit card) ,in terms getting a substitute for a 25 paise coin , or forgoing the change or increase the buying capacity in order to avoid the change. Now that the 25 paise coin is dead the minimum denomination in India is 50 paise coin and all the rates are rounded accordingly. The question that trigerred me when I read about it in the news is why would a country abandon the 25 paise coin , for that matter any coin. The answer is when the face value of the coin becomes less than the manufacturing cost, Government will stop manufacturing those coins. The Government will first take measures like decrease the size /shape of the coin before considering to completely write off them.
